Request Application for Admission
To obtain the application packet, please send a written request and a $15 check or money order to:

If you provide your credit card information, we will also need the card's expiration date and the verification code on the signature line on the back of the card (either last 3 or 4 digits depending on card type).
Requests are usually processed within 3 working days.
Fees & Deadlines for Bar Exams
APPLICATION FILING FEES
Late applications will not be accepted.
Student Applicants (never licensed) $150.
DEADLINES: March 1 for July Exam, October 1 for February Exam.
Attorney Applicants $400.
DEADLINES: March 1 for July Exam, October 1 for February Exam.
EXAM FEES
Exam fees are separate from and in addition to application fees. Exam fees are due a few weeks prior to the exam. Most applicants wait until they have been certified by the Commission on Character & Fitness before submitting the exam fee.
- Montana Essay Examination (MTEE) $150.
- Multistate Essay Examination (MEE) $100.
- Multistate Performance Text (MPT) $100.
- Multistate Bar Examination (MBE) $100.
- Addendum to Application (to defer to the next exam) $20.
RECIPROCITY
- Montana does not have reciprocity with any state.
- There is no admission on motion.
- All applicants (attorneys and students) are required to sit for the bar exam.

MBE Scores (Multi-State Bar Exam)
It is the applicant's responsibility to have MBE scores from another jurisdiction certified to the State Bar of Montana
MBE Passing Score* = Scaled score of 130 or better
*Scores transferrable for 3 years. Consult the Admission Rules, Section III D for specific provisions.

The Montana Board of Bar Examiners is not affiliated with any bar review course, including BAR/BRI. Further, no bar review course has input as to the content of the Montana bar exam. Examinees may note discrepancies between bar review topics and potential bar exam topics. Thus, they are encouraged to consult the Board’s rules, which contain the list of potential topics for the Montana Essay Examination and to review the information provided by the Bar Admissions Administrator and the National Conference of Bar Examiners.
